Hello,
I have been lurking for the past couple of weeks. I'm new to the world of tractors and have learned alot over the past winter. I have a B7800,with a LA402 FEL, and a Land Pride RTA 1572 back blade. This worked great for snow removal on my 1400' drive way. With spring here I'm using the back blade for scraping and shaping and all that sort of thing. I have a line on a Land Pride 60" box blade with the ripping tangs. My question is do you think a whole lot is gained with the box blade (weight,rippers,sideboards) or stick with the back blade and get a set of sideboards for it. Than I could use the box blade $$$'s toward a tiller. Thanks, Bob

I think alot depends on your needs. If your driveway is a gravel/clay mix like mine, the ripper shanks are excellent for loosening up compacted road mix for leveling. The rear blade is easier to get a smooth finish with, the box blade better for moving soil to where you want it. I think of the box blade as doing the rough in work, and the grader blade as the finish work. The two blades serve different purposes. Again, depends on your needs. ....

A heavy blade with end-plates and a scarifier bar would be about the same as a scraper plus if would do tilts and angles and ditching if it had an off-set. these operations are difficult at best with a scraper. The main advantage of a scraper with hydraulic top-link or similarly set up blade is the ability to cut or pick up a load in the box, drag it to where it's needed and then spread it--all without stopping.
I don't have a blade so I don't know if the blade angle can be set at very low angles like a scraper. For finishing with my scraper I extend the top-link so the box rides mostly on its rear cutter and barely skims the surface with the front cutter. That seems to finish pretty well and also does a bit of compacting. I can't compare what I get with what a blade would do though. ....

I have both. I used the rear blade for snow and finish grading. Other wise i used my box blade to rip, move and level dirt. They are both just small versons of a full size scraper and grader. The scraper moves large amounts of dirt anf the grader makes it level. Its best to have one of each. Right tool for the right job.
By the way a tiller is nice to have. I finally got my $166 used tiller working the other day. (It came back from the dead, i hate it when good tools get left outside by stupid people) Shame the guy paid something like $1400 for it. If you do get one. Get one with reverse tilling. The work 10 times better. Great for doing seed beds since it buries the large rocks and leave good soil on top. ....

Once you get a box blade and develop some skill with it I bet you will not hitch to your scraper blade very often. ....

Thanks for the feedback, every comment for having both. I have one on hold at the local dealer here in Spokane. As soon as I recover from some 50-60 mph wind storms,this past week,I'll have to get into town to pick it up. It's pretty sweet to have a Kubota at times like this!! ....

That because it didn't fit in the shop. It was to tall since it didn't have a folding roll bar. It was keep under a tarp. The new to me fits in the garage but not shop since the shop got smaller because i fire proof it for welding. Plus them former owner had the same problem from the same subdivsion for the same reason. Hears the funny part i was at the former owner house do work for him at my normal labor rate with his old tractor. He was complain that he used to have a tractor and know wonders why he sold it. It was work for a new shed to put his new kubota ZTR thats coming. Before the subdivison wouldn't approve a shed but now they did and he has nothing to put in it. Hmmm isn't that strange. Same thing is happening to me i got a 3 bay garge approved last week. ....
